Does your hair feel dry, faded, dull, weighed down…or honestly, just too long after months of sun, water, and humidity? You’re not alone! I’m still talking to guests about their “end-of-summer hair hangover.” Even though the season is long gone, the sun, lake water, humidity, and back-and-forth fall weather leave their mark of dryness, buildup, color fading, and curls that need some seriousTLC. Winter also brings its own challenges with indoor heat, cold air, wind, and low humidity, which pull even more moisture from your curls. This is exactly why now is the perfect time for a Seasonal Hair Reset. Today, I’m walking you through the exact routine I use for myself and my curly guests using three of my staple treatments from Innersense. Whether you're dealing with mineral buildup, dryness, breakage, or just craving that fresh, bouncy curl energy again… I've got you! Welcome! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Jolene. I’m a hairstylist who specializes in curly hair, and I’ve spent years studying product performance, curl behavior, and everything it takes to truly understand your hair. I live for real talk, education, and practical routines you can actually stick to. My goal? To help you feel confident, in control, and wildly in love with your curls. So, let’s dive into why your hair needs a seasonal reset, and then I’ll walk you through exactly how to do it! Why Your Hair Needs a Seasonal Reset We’re shifting into the winter season and our hair has to adjust. Changes in weather conditions creates real, physical changes in your curls. Here’s what’s actually happening: 1. UV Rays Fade Your Color—even after summer Just like a sun-bleached shirt, UV radiation breaks down melanin, the pigment that gives your hair its color.
2. Sun, Water & Humidity Damage the Cuticle Your cuticle is your hair’s armor. Summer roughs it up, fall doesn’t heal it, and winter air makes it worse.
3. Minerals + Buildup = Heavy, Sad, Dry Hair Chlorine, lake minerals, sunscreen, sweat, and hard water leave behind residue that makes your curls:
STEP 1: Detox Start with a clean slate. The Innersense Detox Hair Mask is one of my non-negotiables. It’s formulated with:
Why it matters: Buildup blocks moisture. If your curls can’t absorb hydration, they’ll never look or feel their best. My personal tip: I always detox before any other mask. The difference in absorption is huge. My curls spring back, my scalp feels fresh, and everything absorbs beautifully afterward! STEP 2: Hydrate with the Innersense Hydrate Hair Mask Winter air = lower humidity = faster moisture loss. Not only is the air cold outside, but indoor heat is dry, constant, and extremely dehydrating for curls. This is the season where your hair will lose moisture the fastest, which is why deep conditioning is essential. The Innersense Hydrating Hair Mask is packed with:
Your curls feel dry, brittle, dull, or flat. STEP 2 (Alternate): Strengthen with the Innersense Repair Hair Mask If your hair has been through it…coloring, highlighting, chlorine, ponytails, hats, and just life! This is your next-level reset! The Innersense Repair Mask uses:
Choose this mask if: You’re noticing breakage, split ends, or your hair just feels weak and fragile. My personal routine: I do this Reset Treatment once every 6 weeks to keep my curls healthy and happy and prep my hair for my 8 week color appointment! I always start with the detox mask and then alternate between the Hydrate and Repair masks. In my studio, on my guests, I’m still seeing the need for extra love this season, so I've have been grabbing for the Repair mask the most! If you have questions about which mask is right for you, I’m happy to help! STEP 3 : Seasonal Haircut
A reset isn’t complete without clean ends! Fresh ends help curls look thicker, fuller, and healthier especially in the dry winter months. If you’re trying to grow your hair out you need a cut to prevent those ends from splitting farther up the hair shaft and to make sure the hair looks thick and full once it is long! For me personally:
STEP 4: Refresh Your Color (Optional — but Powerful!) A seasonal reset isn’t complete without giving your color a little love. After months of sun exposure, minerals, and environmental stressors, your color naturally fades, dulls, or shifts brassy and winter dryness makes this even more noticeable. Refreshing your color does more than improve tone. It actually supports the health of your curls by:
I personally refresh my color every 8 weeks. A color gloss every couple of months keeps your curls shiny, healthy, and full of life. Especially in the dry winter months. At-Home vs. In-Salon Reset : Both options are powerful…it just depends on what you need. If you love at-home self-care: These masks are easy to use and incredibly effective. If you want a full transformation: In the salon, everything is tailored to your curls, lifestyle, and hair goals. DO YOU LOVE YOUR HAIR?
Have you ever heard or felt like you needed to switch up your styling products in order to revitalize or refresh your hair?
This is a false reality that a lot of my guests share with me. Maybe a stylist in the past has told you this or maybe you've heard it from a friend or coworker. Most people know to avoid shampoos with sulfates. Sulfates are detergents that make shampoo lather, giving us the sense that our hair is being cleaned. The reality is conventional shampoos contain synthetic ingredients that coat your hair to make it look shiny and feel soft at first, while causing dryness and damage underneath. Conventional styling products include silicones, resins, plastics and other synthetics that add a slick coating or slippery feel. These give the illusion of moisture, softness and shine but over time, these are the exact ingredients that build up and create dull dry, weighed down hair. I'd like to help you understand this even more by comparing it to the way you treat your skin. Skincare has always been super important to me and most women that I know. We go out of our way to make sure that we're using the highest quality ingredients and products on our face. We wash with special cleansers morning and evening, use treatment serums, targeted creams, lotions and even spend money on professional treatments, facials and retinols to try to slow down and reverse the signs of aging. So, I have to ask, would you wash your face with dawn dish soap and use vegetable oil (mineral oils or petroleum) as a moisturizer? If you did use these products, over time your skin would become extremely dry which would cause you to use more oils and petroleum's to combat the dryness. Those ingredients continue to build up on your skin creating a barrier. This barrier is preventing moisture from getting in and toxins from coming out. Leading you to extremely dry, dull, flaky skin. This is the same thing that happens to your hair when you use conventional shampoos, conditioners and styling products. It may look shiny and feel soft but as the days go by you wash more frequently, add more products to your routine to combat the dryness and add shine. These products are building up on your hair layer by layer creating a barrier. If you use any heat styling tools, the heat can burn these products into your hair. Leaving you with weighted down, greasy, unmanageable, lifeless hair. I'm constantly explaining this to guests. They love their hair when they leave to salon but go home and over time start to experience what I described above. They wash more frequently, have to use more product, spend more time on styling, and are left with undesirable results. The ingredients in our shampoos, conditioners and styling products are so important to the vitality of our hair. As someone who has very dry, curly hair I know how hard the struggle is to find the right combination of shampoo, conditioner and products! I thought I knew what to look for in my old hair care products. I was even excited that it was cruelty free. They made it sound like the ingredients were "all natural". The website boldly states, "The power of nature. Combining natural, wildcrafted botanicals with the latest technology to meet your hair needs." I had to wash my hair every 2-3 days. Using several different products to add shine, moisture and soften my hair on the days in between. I remember telling my guests that my hair would get dryer the longer I went in between washes, forcing me to wash it more often. Thinking back on this, it's crazy that I didn’t recognize how backwards this was! I had to wash my hair twice on wash day because of all the product that was building up from overusing oils and leave ins on a daily basis. After a while I reached out to my curly hair friends, and they pointed me in the direction of clean organic hair care. I'm the kind of person that doesn’t make decisions without research overkill and weeks of deliberation, I’m also very particular on where I invest my hard-earned dollars. I was always hesitant to use clean organic hair care. I just didn’t think it would work and I thought it would be really expensive to maintain. Until I found Innersense Organic Beauty. When I found Innersense it was like everything clicked for me, from the clean look of the 100% post-consumer material bottles to the inspirational affirmations on the back. Not to mention when I popped the top and smelled that sweet but subtle all-natural spa like fragrance. I was in heaven! Even the directions say take a deep breath and become centered, who doesn’t need that reminder on a daily basis. When I started using these products it changed my wash day experience! My routine went from being a frustrating chore to a spa like self-care ritual!
The shampoos are formulated from a rich, concentrated combination of Certified Organic plant ingredients like coconut, avocado and shea butter. These healthy ingredients leave hair clean, residue-free and naturally shiny and voluminous. The styling products are created from highest quality, Certified Organic ingredients, in the purest, most concentrated form, to create a complete, award-winning line of safe, sustainable and cruelty free personal care products. Leaving you with clean, residue free, hydrated, nourished and revitalized all hair. Did I mention that Innersense products are made up of only 40% water, compared to other brands at 60%.
